LWRDPC Competitions

salon-ribbonsOur next LWRDPC Digital Salon Competition will be held on Thursday, April 20th starting at 6:30pm at Woodland Church.

Photos will be entered in 2 categories: 1. Color 2. Black & White. Only current LWRDPC are members eligible to  enter.

We will again have 3 top quality judges judging this Salon Digital Competition. Scoring will again be on a 0-100 scoring system with a score of 80 or above receiving a Merit Award.

Submitting Image is super easy. You do not need to be present to submit images. You can send up to two photos (digital Images) per entrant. There will be two categories for judging: Color & Black/White. The photos can be on any subject. You can submit 2 color images, 2 B&W images or 1 of each. Any image that receive a Merit Award in a LWRDPC Salon is not eligible. You will email your digital files to LB Blanchard at Lbblanchardphoto@aol.com.

Please rename your files with name of your photo 1st, then your name.
e.g. “Plasterers-Henri Cartier Bresson”.
To Rename in Photoshop:1. Open File. 2.Hit Save As. 3. Highlight & delete current name. 4.Type in new name. 5.Hit Save.

To Rename In Computer: 1. Click on File. 2.Select Rename from list. 3.Type in New Name.

It’s that easy. Take your time in giving a great name to your photo as judges are influenced by catchy photo names.

Photos must be emailed to L.B. between now and April 14.

How Will Prizes Be Awarded:

The 3 highest scoring images in both categories based on the judges scoring average will receive special Rosette Ribbons. Tied scores will be broken by our judges. These top 6 people in descending scoring order, if present, will have their pick of the fantastic sponsor prizes. Larry George has again lined up sponsors who will be giving some fantastic gift certificates and prizes for this special event. All photos that receive an average score of 80 (Merit Award Score) will receive a special certificate of their accomplishment.

Why Should You Participate:
1. You are a member of a photo club that emphasizes taking quality photographs.
2. You will learn what professional judges look for in a high scoring photographs.
3. You will then be able to make adjustments to your photos for other competitions.
4. This will be FUN and is strictly to help you improve your photography.

Thursday, October 13th, 2016 – 3rd Annual Quad Competition

trophyThe Quad competition is a friendly photo competition between four local photography clubs, Sun City Center Photography Club, Suncoast Photography Club, Sarasota Photography and LWRDPC. We participated for the first time in 2014 and won the 1st place trophy. Last year Sarasota Camera Club took home the trophy. This years competition will be hosted by Sun City Center.

The photographs used in this competition are those who have qualified by being one of the top merit scoring photos at our club salon competition held in September. Members may also be invited to submit one other photo for consideration that has won a ribbon in one of this years F3C competitions or that they felt was good enough to be considered. Our salon competition judges then chose15 color and 10 black and white photos that represent their club members best work for that calendar year.

Members are welcome to attend the competition along with members from the other photo clubs who will be participating.  It will be held on Thursday, October 13th at 6:30 pm, in the Atrium Building at Sun City Center.

*I-75 North to Exit #240

*Go Right onto 674 – Go 2 miles – (past big Welcome sign and busy area).

*Turn LEFT on N. Pebble Beach Blvd. (LIGHT Left Turn Lane)  (Walgreens on corner)

*Turn RIGHT onto Cherry Hills Dr. go two Blocks

*Turn Left onto N. Course Blvd (Looks like a double driveway)

This is the parking area.

*Enter the Building with OVERHANG – Double automatic Doors – Go straight down the hallway – past the public restrooms – to the FLORIDA room – last room on the left.

NOTE:

There is NO STREET ADDRESS for this building.  DO NOT look up the S.C.C. Street address to use for your GPS – that address is for the Administration Building which will be closed.  Please – don’t use your GPS (after exit #240). 

How to know you missed a turn:

  1. Apollo Beach exit – you went too far north on I-75
  2. Ruskin – you turned left, not right onto 674.
  3. Walmart – you missed the Pebble Beach left turn
  4. Local office buildings, Lawn Bowling area and library – you didn’t turn Right onto Cherry Hills.
  5. A long area of small private homes on Cherry Hills – you missed the left turn into the parking area.

DON’T Go to the Photo Club Building – that is not where the meeting is.  We’re meeting in the Florida Room of the ATRIUM Building.

Saturday, September 24, 2016 – Salon Print Competition

salon-ribbonsOur next LWRDPC Salon Competition will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 starting at 9 am at Woodland Church.  This will be a “Print Competition”. Prints must be mounted only on 16×20 Mat Board. Foam core prints will not be accepted. Prints of any size can be mounted on mat board however larger prints ie. 11×14 and larger are recommended. You will be receiving a link to a video showing you how to mount with special two sided adhesive tape. You can also spray mount your photos. Photos will be entered in 2 categories: 1. Color 2. Black & White. Only current LWRDPC are members eligible to  enter.

Members can enter up to 2 prints for Our Sept. Salon. Members can submit a 3rd print to be considered for Quad Competition. The 3rd print will not be eligible for this Salon. All prints for Salon and any 3rd prints to be considered for Quad Competition must be brought to our regular LWRDPC monthly meeting on Thursday, Sept. 15. No prints will be accepted after Sept. 15. Any digital file that has received a Merit Award (score above 80) in one of  our Digital Salon Competitions are not eligible for Salon. All other photos are eligible.
We will again have 3 top quality judges judging this Salon Print Competition. We will have our own Lightbox that is being made by Tim Wahl. Scoring will again be on a 0-100 scoring system with a score of 80 or above receiving a Merit Award. Merit prints will be given priority for entry into Quad Competition on Oct. 13 in Sun City.
All prints submitted must have a completed label as shown below affixed to each print in the TOP RIGHT CORNER on the back of the mat board. Absolutely no verbiage can be on the print itself. We will not be responsible for any photos that are damaged in any competition.

10659295_755301077881634_6101174547642675751_nA club Salon Competition replaces our regular monthly meeting for the month of March. It will be held at the Woodland Community Church located at 9607 SR 70.

What Is A Salon Competition?

A Salon Competition is an opportunity for you to have your photos critiqued by three fine photographers from our Club. Our judges will be Betty Lupacchino, Larry Deitch, & Jamie Tracy.  No one but you will know that your photo is being projected & judged.

Your photos in this competition will be projected on a screen long enough for the judges to give the photo a score and also discuss in many cases what they liked about the projected photo or things to change to improve it. The highest score a judge can give is 100 for a total from the 3 judges of 300 points. An average score of 80 points or more will represent a “Merit Award”. The judges will be scoring based on “The Twelve Elements” Everyone in the audience will be able to see the projected images and which ones score the best but they won’t know the photographer.

The Rules for Our 2nd Salon:

Submitting photos is super easy. You do not need to be present to submit photos.

  • You can send only one digital file per entrant.
  • The file can be on any subject and can be Black & White, or Color.
  • Rename your file with the name of your photo 1st, then your name (e.g. Cabbage Leaf-Edward Weston).
  • If you don’t know how to rename your files make sure you indicate the name of your photo and your name in the email and we will do the rest.
  • You will email your digital files to L.B. Blanchard at: lbblanchardphoto@aol.com.
  • It’s that easy. Take your time in giving a great name to your photo as judges are influenced by catchy photo names.
***Photos must be emailed to LB by Friday, March 11 at midnight. ***
This year there will not be separate categories for beginners or advanced.

How Will Prizes Be Awarded:

The 3 highest scoring images based on the judges scoring average will receive special Rosette Ribbons. These top 3 people in descending order, if present, will have their pick of the fantastic sponsor prizes. After that, the next highest scores in descending order will pick from the many remaining prizes. In the event of ties, those tied will draw cards to determine picking order with the highest card selecting first. Larry George has again lined up sponsors who will be giving some fantastic gift certificates and prizes for this special event. All photos that receive an average score of 80 or more (Merit Award Score) will receive a special certificate of their accomplishment.

2nd Annual Quad Competition- October 1, 2015

trophyThe Quad competition is a friendly photo competition between four local photography clubs, Sun City Center Photography Club, Suncoast Photography Club, Sarasota Photography and LWRDPC. We participated for the first time in 2014 and won the 1st place trophy. As the winner LWRDPC is required to host this years competition. Each club will submit 15 color and 10 black and white photos that represent their club members best work for that calendar year. This year the top 24 scored photographs from all 4 clubs combined will be eligible to be on display in the South Florida Museum during the months of November and December.

The photographs used in this competition are those who have qualified by being one of the top scoring photos at our club salon competition held in September. Members may also be invited to submit photos for consideration if they have won a blue ribbon in one of this years F3C competitions.

Members are welcome to come and watch the judging along with members from the other photo clubs who will be participating.  It will be held on October 1st at the Lakewood Ranch Town Hall at 7:00pm.

No one but you will know that your photo is being projected & judged. Your photos in this competition will be projected on a screen long enough for the judges to give the photo a score and also discuss in many cases what they liked about the projected photo or things to change to improve it. The highest score a judge can give is 100 for a total from the 3 judges of 300 points. The scores will be totaled and divided by three. An average score of 80 will represent a “Merit Award”. The judges will be scoring based on “The Twelve Elements”. Everyone in the audience will be able to see the projected images and which ones score the best but they won’t know the photographer.

The Rules for Our 3rd Salon Competition:

Submitting photos is super easy. You do not need to be present to submit photos. You can send one photo only (digital file) per entrant. The photos can be on any subject and can be Black & White (Mono), or Color. Digitally altered photos are acceptable. You will email your digital files to Larry George at: legdallas@aol.com If you know how to rename your files, do so by renaming the file with name of your photo 1st, then your name. If you don’t know how to rename your files, make sure you indicate the name of your photo and your name in the email and I will do the rest. It’s that easy. Take your time in giving a great name to your photo as judges are influenced by catchy photo names. No previous Salon winning photos are eligible. All photos submitted should have been taken since January 2014. Photos must be emailed to Larry George between August 24 and Sept. 11.
